STATEMENT:
The idea of a line is infinite and “breadthless” as it comes from an abstract space. Lines have importance, providing a straightforward and simple mathematic reference to mapping unbounded thoughts in binary. With time, I have found multiple ways of defining intentions for using lines in my art. Considering the most basic artistic notion of a line (a long, narrow mark or band) and extending it to poetry, math and literature reveals a diversity of perspectives. As an infinite line can be bounded to be used as a notional limit or physical boundary, one can begin to understand the limitless graphic quality that a line segment can bring to composition. Line informs space. This space is taken up with graphic notions of narrative and information.
This work informs the line I have followed within my history in context to family, occupation, and class within a society. I invite play from the viewers to describe and inform where the line came from, and where it is headed.

Low-Pressure Systems
a solo exhibition

STATEMENT:
There is an old saying I heard from my father;
“Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in morning, sailors take warning.”
I think about this adage whenever I see a sunrise or sunset holding true forms of reds, oranges, and pinks. Think about what these colors could mean. What is natural in this context? Purples, yellows, and greens, and any shade showing a gradient shift so smooth from one to another. Like the adage notes, these other colors are warnings too. Warnings to man that go unnoticed or unchecked.
A low-pressure system rolls in, turning clear sky into opportunity and monstrous cumulonimbus clouds. The atmosphere above is freeform and performative. She calls to all who can see. Pushing clouds like hair as the wind and rain move to embrace and dance across our bodies. Our cities, fields, and homes. The heavens above is open and free. Enticing our ideas of possibility. Sublime symphonies compose inspiration, fear, and bewilderment. It fuels daydreams and night wishes. Mother nature is communicative, and the viewer has a job to listen actively.
There is enormity and wonder in the sky above. Nature is teaching us the meaning of change. With raw natural change, there is no inherently good or bad. A possibility of growth and rebirth occupies the same space as devastation. Every new day teaches lessons about the inevitability of chaos and accepting how life can move so fluidly and justly with ephemerality. A cloud you saw at dusk will not be the same at dawn. There is constant change. Here in our reality, there is only one constant thing: change. This is a law of nature. We all adjust at our own pace, but we change just as much as the weather. There is chaos and sublime, and there is truth.
